Hey hey hello,
Guess what? If you are the type of person that still loves to receive magic voice notes from pals, despite how much hateration they receive on the internet, you’ll dig this weeks Trust Fall. We’re testing features, we’re sending audio.
BITE SIZED PEP TALKS on being creative on the internet from me to you.
If you do not like to receive mystery box gah lee now I have to go to a quiet place and listen to this person work through the winding road of their inner monologue audio surprises, here’s the gist!
🦢 if you are a creative person feeling milked by internet sharing platforms for your brilliance, and feel yourself pushed through the pipeline of artist-to-content-creator, how can you meet the need of wanting to create and express, while also honoring the boundary of being squeezed uncomfortably? Is there a middle way, what could that look like?
🦢 sharing things on the internet is an act of generosity, it is not only a sinkhole for outsourcing validation with hungry ego content and self promotion. What shifts if you think of sharing as a way to feed the platform, whatever platform, the kind of content that ~does things for people~ : inspiration, generative provocation, fanning the flames of others’ creative process, sparking revolution in all sectors of living and dreaming.
🦢 play play play play play play play
🦢 ok I didn’t say anything about this in the voice note but it’s important. PLAY REQUIRES SAFETY. In order to show up to any social space, on the internet and in real life, and get to experience authentic playfulness, we have to have a felt sense of safety in tact. Most of us are conditioned to feel safe *if and only if* the environment and conditions outside of ourselves register as safe to our sweet baby traumatized nervous systems. I spend a good deal of time, and particularly before I share anything to the internet, courting that finicky, elusive dove of inner safety. Getting that foundation of the self in tact. @Peathefeary on ig has been making some fun art about this lately, highly recommend.
🦢 challenge your ideas of what showing up on the internet creatively is supposed to look like. Reinvent the forms and approaches by listening to what is easy for you, what is not a push. When you open the inner faucet, what comes flooding out naturally without much effort? For me, it’s talking to people I care about and drawing. Right now, and it changes all the time, those are the channels of expression that feel easy, delicious, fruitful and playful.
🦢 if expressing yourself out loud on the internet or in any kind of public way didn’t matter very much, or rather was low stakes as hell, what spaces, what approaches would feel like watering the spirit, rather than being milked for content?
🦢 shout out to finding the people and spaces that support that which you are growing in the quiet cave of yourself. Invest in yourself! A lot of these thoughts are influenced by what's been coming up for me in the very fun and illuminating ~shapes of our offerings~ class led by
this month.
